The Wearable
Turning Feedle into a cyborg...

So, I own a Xybernaut MA IV wearable computer. I've been slowly working with a good friend developing a voice version of everybody's favorite text adventure gaming system.. frotz.

I've had a lot of rambling thoughts on applications and uses for the wearable, and this page is (at the moment) mostly a collection of those. Late in 1999, I wrote this old page which has some interesting ideas as well.

Note that this document has just been started, and it will no doubt be added to regularly...

Input/Output

One of the things that I've never liked about lot of wearable computer implementations is the use of prism glasses or HMDs as a way of output. I don't like that because it adds a distortion field in your vision, and I'd imagine someday law enforcement not taking too kindly to the wearing of such devices while operating a motor vehicle. As such, I chose to opt for Xybernaut's wrist-mount display.

But that only solves half the problem. Speech recognition is still kinda clunky, and typically very much imperfect, especially when you are out in the real world. While I like the Twiddler keyboard (I have one somewhere), it's not always a good solution. So, I came up with this concept...

Morse Code provides a simple way to interact with the machine...
